valerie rosenfeld

painting the window

on the towering scaffold

my perspective changes

from the fear of heights

to love of the sky

in a mountain lake

we swim a mile together

with great cheerfulness-

anxiety leaves my body

making me question its necessity

I try to be neutral

but my unresolved conflict

comes out

in my advice to my friend

~free speech eludes me

we are

unlikely students

of each other

continuing to learn

all these miles down the road

she had to say

what she saw

so she could be seen-

this stranger

wears my face

my deep No

being jostled from its sleep

tired eyes waking

maybe the answer is Yes

after all
