on new year’s day

tired supermarket cashiers

the long check-out line

a lump of sore truth

pushes at my heart

a clerk

older than my grandfather

eagerly helps

demanding customers

~ grace outshines rudeness

late at night

I watch the world

from a bus window

till I see my reflection

in the same window

A girl holds her morning coffee

facing kitchen windows tinted by the cool sun.

And she feels content, but I feel surprised

When I suddenly realize

that the girl is me, not an image from a movie
